The 9D experience is the perfect synchronization of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and movement. The audience watching the film can not only “touch” the objects in the movie but also “meet” them. The Throne of Helios experience transcends ordinary cinematic standards, offering visitors a groundbreaking 9D adventure. Using cutting-edge technology and impressive effects, the films are presented in a way that brings the senses to life. In this article, we will explore how the 9D effects create an immersive experience like no other.

The Power of Wind and Rain
One of the most notable effects at Throne of Helios is the combination of wind and rain. During the screening, viewers feel the wind sweeping across their faces, while gentle raindrops transport them straight into the heart of the events. This experience is particularly impressive during scenes of sea battles or storms, making the audience feel as though they are in the middle of the action. This effect not only enhances realism but also creates an emotional connection with the stories unfolding on the screen.

The Magic of Smoke
Smoke and bubbles play a significant role in shaping the atmosphere. Smoke builds tension in the most dramatic scenes, recreating the mysterious ambiance of battles or historical events.

The Sensation of Bubbles
Bubbles bring a playful touch, especially when scenes focus on the sea. Their presence enhances the feeling of “traveling” through time and offers an entirely different dimension to storytelling.

The Dynamic Movement of the Seats
The seats, moving in sync with the action, are perhaps the most thrilling aspect of the 9D experience. Every movement, every bounce, is designed to precisely reflect what’s happening on the screen. Whether it’s a flight over Rhodes or a battle in ancient fields, the dynamic seat movement makes the viewer feel they are truly part of the story. This sensation is not just impressive but creates a deep immersion in the world presented.

An Experience for All the Senses
Throne of Helios is not just a projection venue – it’s a gateway through time. Through the use of cutting-edge technologies like lights, sounds, and the unique 9D effects, the audience is invited to experience the history of Rhodes in a way that activates all the senses. This connection to the past becomes more powerful and memorable, leaving visitors with a newfound appreciation for the island’s heritage.
The 9D effects are not just a technological innovation but a tool that bridges the past with the present, bringing Rhodes’ history to life. If you haven’t experienced it yet, now is the time to do so.

Maria Malandri, known as the “heroine of the hideout of Akramitis,” was an admirable woman from the village of Monolithos in Rhodes, who left an indelible mark on the history of World War II. Despite her young age, Maria played a pivotal role in supporting the resistance effort, using her intelligence and bravery to aid in the fight against the occupying forces.

The “Hideout”
Illiterate but highly intelligent, she could not read or write but knew well how to graze her sheep and face life’s dangers effectively. While searching for a lost goat in the mountains, she discovered the ideal spot for a wartime shelter: the “Hideout.” It was a cave that was nearly impossible to locate unless one was familiar with the terrain of Rhodes. With a narrow entrance that required crawling to access, it was an exceptionally inaccessible place for enemies.

Risking Her Life for Freedom
As a simple shepherdess, Maria used her daily work as a cover to remain inconspicuous while transporting food, supplies, and messages through rough paths. Her strategic approach and natural agility allowed her to escape the attention of the occupiers. On one occasion, three German soldiers reached the top of the cave, but using coded whistles, she alerted the spies, enabling them to hide and avoid detection.

What Was Said About Maria Malandri
The soldier from Corfu, Spyros Katechis, remarked: “She impressed me with her upright stature and her innocence combined with her naivety. For all of us who passed through the cave of Monolithos, Maria was our salvation.” Meanwhile, the Metropolitan of Karpathos-Kasos wrote in his book: “I said I would bring to light the souls of true heroes recruited from all social classes. Here is one, the best (Maria Malandri).”

The Medal for the Rhodian Woman
In 1987, the British government, in a special ceremony in Monolithos, awarded the “Partisan Medal” to the brave shepherdess Maria Malandri for her resistance actions, presented by the military attaché of the British Embassy in Athens.
The Legacy of a Heroine
Maria Malandri represents the devotion and courage of ordinary people who stood against the occupying forces during the war. Her story lives on, not only through the narratives of Rhodes’ residents but also as a source of inspiration for future generations. Today, through tributes like those of the Throne of Helios, her story is revived, honoring her contribution to the resistance and reminding us of the importance of memory and historical heritage.

Rhodes is a maritime crossroad between east and west. Due to that, always had fortresses and castles for its defence. Especially in times of Byzentine Empire but also during the Knights occupation. Here is a list of the most famous.

1. Palace of the Grand Master
The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, also known as the Kastello (Greek: Καστέλο, from Italian: Castello, “castle”), is a medieval castle in the city of Rhodes, on the island of Rhodes in Greece. It is one of the few examples of Gothic architecture in Greece. The site was previously a citadel of the Knights Hospitaller that functioned as a palace, headquarters, and fortress.

2. Archangelos Castle
“Archaggeloskastro” is located in Kerami at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level, 27 Km south of Rhodes Town and a short distance from the coast.
It is built on a rock 217 meters high, east of the Village of Archangelos and has an elliptic shape.
As mentioned in the decree Knights it was built in the 15th century to effectively protect the villagers from any danger. The earliest findings date back to 1100 BC. Today it is a restored monument.

3. Castle of Monolithos
It is located on the top of a huge solitary rock near the coast. Built in the 14th century by the Knights in order to have control of the sea and protect the inhabitants from pirate raids. Inside the castle you can find rescued cisterns and the ruins of the Church of Saint Panteleimon.
The view from the castle is breathtaking.

4. The Medieval Castle of Kritinia
It is Located 2 kilometers northwest of the Village Kritinia and 55 kilometers from the city of Rhodes.
It is a blend of Byzantine and Medieval style that is known as Kastelli. Inside are the remains of the Catholic Church of Saint Paul and newer buildings, as the castle was used during the Italian occupation as a sea base.

5. The Knights Castle of Asklepio
This is located on a hill 250 meters high in the Village Asklepio. Built in 15th century in 2 phases: the first fortified the square tower and the second tower in the northwest corner was repaired.
The castle was built to protect the settlement of the village, since its location allowed the supervision of a large section of coastline and inland roads. The perimeter wall is 1.30-1.50 meters thick.
Inside the fortress there are two cisterns and ruins.

6. The Feraklos Castle
Castle built near the village of Malona on a hill 85 metres high overlooking the sea between the bays of Ayia Agathe and Charaki. It is also known as Faraklo or Charaki. Its remains date from the Byzantine and Hospitaller periods. One gate and two 15th c. round towers still survive to the south and southeast. The arms of the Order of St. John and of grand master G. B. degli Orsini are incorporated in the masonry facing the sea. The conquest of Feraklos by the Knights Hospitaller on 20 September 1306 was the first success of the Order in its endeavout to conquer the island. Before 1408 the castle was deserted. It was repaired under grand masters Orsini (1467-1476) and Pierre d?Aubusson (1476-1503), for the protection of the fertile territory around and the nearby anchorages.

Kallipateira (Καλλιπάτειρα) of Ialysos in Rhodes came from a renowned family of athletes in Ancient Greece, “The Diagorides”. She was caught attending the ancient Olympic Games disguised as a male trainer. Her capture led to a law being introduced that trainers should strip before entering the stadium.

Kallipateira was a grandaughter of Damagetos, king of Ialysos. Her father, Diagoras of Rhodes, was a celebrated boxer and one of the most famous Olympic winners. Diagoras won the boxing at several Olympic and Panhellenic games and was honoured by Pindar. Her brothers were also Olympic and Panhellenic champions: Damagetos won pankration events and Akousilaos won in boxing. Her younger brother Dorieus was the most successful, winning the pankration at 21 different Panhellenic games.

Kallipateira was a widow at the time of her arrest at Olympia, which she was attending in support of her own son Peisirodos.

Even if the law didn’t change, Kallipateira became a symbol of all women – mother in Greece and she is a panhellenic legend.

Leonidas of Rhodes is one of the wrongdoers of history. Although he was a model athlete with unique achievements in his career, yet few know him. Leonidas was born on the island of Rhodes in the 2nd century BC. He was a runner in all three events of the time, the stadion, the track (diaulos) and the hoplite road. He emerged as a triathlete, after he managed to finish first in all three sports on the same day. He repeated this achievement in 4 consecutive Olympiads, the 154th, the 155th, 156th and 157th Olympiad. Precisely because of these victories, he emerged as the most victorious athlete in the history of the ancient Olympic games. Philostratos the Athenian, in his report “Gymnastikos”, analyzes further the achievement of Leonidas, explaining that the three sports in which he excelled required completely different physical characteristics. The stadion and the diaulos, foot races of some 200 and 400 meters respectively, were best suited to sprinters, while the hoplitodromos (a diaulos performed with bronze armor and shield) required more muscular strength and endurance. How difficult and unique his achievement was is proven to be unprecedented in human history as his total of victories was surpassed after 2,168 years in modern Olympic games by American swimmer Michael Phelps in 2016, who won his 13th Olympic medal of Rio de Janeiro. However, in athletics he remains unsurpassed…

During the early Christian period (330-650 AD), Rhodes was part of the Christianised Roman Empire, better known as the Byzantine Empire.

Although less important and prosperous than in the past, the city of Rhodes was an episcopal see and had a considerable number of churches, among which were some basilicas of impressive proportions. It was also an important military base.

The Arabs who first appeared in the Mediterranean in the 7th century attacked Rhodes and occupied it for a few decades.

In the centuries that followed, the city shrank in size and was fortified with new walls. At the same time, it was divided into two zones, one for the political and military leadership and one for the ‘laity’. This zone reflects the social reality of medieval times.

Due to the lack of written sources, there is an absence of accumulated information about this period. The restorations carried out by the Italians later ignored or even damaged buildings of this period that survived in favour of those of the Knights’ period.

The island of Rhodes was inhabited at the end of the Neolithic period (4000 BC). In 408 BC there were three major cities on the island, Ialyssos, Κamiros and Lindos, which founded the city of Rhodes. The three centuries that followed were the “golden period” of Rhodes.

Sea trade, navigation and progressive political and diplomatic movements kept the city strong. The island flourished for three centuries during the Golden Age until the Roman period.

During the same period, Rhodes began to produce excellent art. The most famous creation was the Colossus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, which was made between 304 BC and 293 BC by the sculptor Charis, originally from Lindos. The construction of the Colossus took 12 years and was completed in 282 BC. For many years, the statue was placed, most likely at the entrance to the harbour and personified the god Sun until a strong earthquake struck Rhodes in 226 BC. The city was severely damaged and the statue of Colossus collapsed.

The urban plan of the ancient city of Rhodes was based on the urban and philosophical ideas of the famous ancient Greek urban planner Hippodamus. The street plan of the ancient city is known thanks to decades of archaeological excavations. The building blocks (insulae) had the following dimensions 47,70×26,50 m and were all the same size. Each of them contained three houses and was surrounded by streets 5-6 m wide.

Larger building units formed areas which were surrounded by larger streets 8-11 m wide. Each such area consisted of 36 insulae or 108 houses. The ancient city had an extensive and well-structured sewerage system and a water supply network.

Ancient Greeks lived over 3000 years ago. Their civilisations followed a Dark Age in Greece, which is thought to have ended in 800 B.C. For the most part, Ancient Greece was divided into several small city-states, each with their own laws, customs, and rulers. However, in the 300s B.C., these small city-states were forced to unite under one ruler: Alexander the Great. He was the founder of the Ancient Greek Empire, which stretched into Europe, Egypt, and South-West Asia.

The Greeks had some strange superstitions about food – some wouldn’t eat beans as they thought they contained the souls of the dead!

The Ancient Greeks were descended from the Mycenaeans, who were also the first writers and speakers of ‘Ancient Greek’. A famous legend tells how, in 1180 B.C., the mighty Mycenaeans conquered the city of Troy – by hiding inside a giant wooden horse! The horse was left outside the city’s walls and, thinking it a gift, the people of Troy wheeled it inside… only for the sneaky Mycenaean soldiers to creep out and seize the city!

Did you know that the Ancient Greeks invented the theatre? They loved watching plays, and most cities had a theatre – some big enough to hold 15,000 people! Only men and boys were allowed to be actors, and they wore masks, which showed the audience whether their character was happy or sad. Some of the masks had two sides, so the actor could turn them around to change the mood for each scene.

Most Ancient Greeks wore a chiton, which was a long T-shirt made from one large piece of cotton. The poor slaves, however, had to make do with a loincloth (a small strip of cloth wrapped around the waist)!

The Ancient Greeks held many festivals in honour of their gods. To celebrate the god Zeus, for example, the first Greek Olympics were held in the city of Olympia in 776 B.C. and are thought to have inspired our own Olympic Games! The winners of each event were given a wreath of leaves, and when they returned home, they would be given free meals and the best seats in the theatre!

Statues of Greek gods and goddesses were placed inside temples, the most famous of which is the Parthenon. This temple in Athens was built for the goddess Athena, the protector of the city.

Events at the Greek’s Olympics included wrestling, boxing, long jump, javelin, discus and chariot racing. But those taking part in the wrestling event had to be the toughest, as there were hardly any rules – and they had to compete naked.

The Ancient Greeks had lots of stories to help them learn about their world. The gods featured heavily in these tales, and so did mythological monsters – like Cerberus, a three-headed dog that guarded the gates to the underworld; Medusa, a slithery sorceress whose look could turn people to stone; and the Cyclops, who had one eye in the middle of its forehead – yikes! These tales are known as Greek mythology

The city-states were often at war, but just before the Olympics, a truce would be called so that everyone could travel to Olympia safely.
